V/A – “Dope, Guns, & Fucking in Your Video Deck” DVD A compiling of the titular video series from the now late AmRep, specializers of dat Ugly Noise Rock thang that used to drive the hipsters crazy back in the late 80s-mid 90s (before it all went pear-shaped) with visuals that pretty much matched the music they accompanied (the currently-defunct genre known as “pigfuck”). The better clips seem to come from either volume two (when they started to get a grip on this “video” thing, but had yet to use MTV as a template, consciously or otherwise) or, surprisingly enough, the post-series videos tacked on at the end as bonuses (though the latter becomes more touch-n-go after fEEDTIME). At their worst the vids seem hopelessly dated either musically and/or visually (now I remember why I sold my Tar discs ages ago), but the best videos made even bands I wasn’t too crazy about seem like they were worth a second look. Standouts include Melvins, Servotron, Cosmic Psychos, and of course the defining outfit known as the Cows; those looking for Halo of Flies, a naked Lubricated Goat (not a pretty sight, I’ll tell ya), and pre-crapola Helmet will find them here as well. With 45 (yep) videos to choose from, old AmRep freaks will definitely find something here to salivate over. If only they could have included something from (the Australian) X….
