Beulah - "A Good Band Is Easy to Kill" DVD
Following a touring band around with a camcorder isn't really a documentary, more like home movies. Miles, who fronts the band gets a lot of face time, and doesn't exactly have the charisma to carry the film. Like most films about rock acts, there's too much ego. I wondered what got edited out of the film, because it had to be about as interesting as what got left in. I wish this had a stronger narrative thread, but I guess the point is that the band broke up and we get to see what being a touring band is like, and why bands have a limited span. There's numerous shots of the band on stage in various towns on their 2003 "Yoko" tour, playing to their college age audience. It's more a tour diary than documentary, and nothing special even on that level. On a positive note is the other half of the package, a 17 song performance of the brand of indiepop that garnered Beulah so many fans over their 8 year existence. It looks and sounds first rate, so consider this a concert DVD that no Beulah fan will want to be without, along with a bonus tour diary. Mel
