Melvins – “Salad of a Thousand Delights” DVD
Reissue of the video chronicling their appearance at the North Shore Surf Club in Olympia, 5/16/91. Some might find the production qualities to be a bit, um, underdeveloped: multiple camera angles (as well as some imaginative shots) are utilized but the visual quality’s a bit dark and noticeably grainy in spots, there’s some fade to the picture (or maybe it had those auras to begin with) and the sound is superior walkmanrama. That said, this is still quite an enjoyable document that effectively captures the ambience of a Melvins gig during this period. If you’re the overly fussy type who spends many an hour (and dollar) on his/her Home System, this isn’t for you but for raw power you could do far worse than this. Bonus features include a (too-dark) “alternative perspective” (i.e. fan-shot from the audience) of “Antitoxidote”, footage taken from a ’91 performance at the Off-Ramp in Seattle (More fan footage, but in far better light), and very early (1984) footage for a young Melvins (amazing how much Buzz looks like Billie Joe Armstrong with thicker eyelashes and a perm).
