Electric Frankenstein – “Live at Camden Underworld” DVD
Electric Frankenstein’s brand of punkish rock (with Steve Miller on vox and the band still a five-piece) inflicted upon London’s Camden Underworld in December 2000. They kinda lost me musically somewhere around this period as they moved in a rockier direction, though based on this they could still kick up at least some fuss on stage. Sound quality’s serviceable, if not stellar. Visual quality’s okay (if a tad rough here and there), and there’s pretty good use of multiple angles but the crew still had to perfect the art of filming a band (the label’s later As Friends Rust/Strike Anywhere release is noticeably improved on all fronts). You should find some value to this if you’re still a fan (especially since Electric Frankenstein DVDs aren’t exactly a commodity currently flooding the market), but it’s pretty non-essential for everyone else. The interview with Sal Canzonieri is pretty good though, and of course the beer-bottle-used-as-slide is always a nice touch. David
