Devo ‚ "Live in the Land of the Rising Sun: Japan 2003" DVD Devo caught during one of its periodic regroupings (still with drummer David Kendricks in tow) at a '03 gig(s) in Japan. They start off not too badly, but their performances on such songs as "Girl U Want" seem to painfully demonstrate that they've lost a step or five. Still, things pick up midway through (particularly on "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA") and things end on a relatively high note. Even if their pioneering days are long gone (and to be honest I'd rather slap down my hard-earned buck for Polysics nowadays), the domed ones still seem to have some life in them. Extras include interviews (Gerald Casale comes off better here than in the interviews interspersed in the "main" program), Devo roaming the wilds of Japan, an interview with current drummer Kendricks, and what will appeal to most spuds, a performance of "Gut Feeling" (considerably more intense than 2003 live version) taken from a Target Video gig almost 25 years before (wouldn't mind seeing THAT one reissuedä.).
